Problem with Firewall?

I have my virus protection %26 firewall through Verizon. Everytime my firewall is enabled, I can not connect to any websites! Not even my home page! When I turn it off, I can go anywhere!! When I called Verizon, they said I probably need to purchase a new modem. My modem is only about 6 months old!! What should I do? Get a new modem? Or run without my firewall on? I don't know that much about computers ~ I'm not even sure what a firewall does!! :)

well first of all you DONT need a new modem, you just need to allow the websites through your firewall. I suggest buying mcafee virus protection and firewall its only about 20$ and it works Great I havent gotten a virus yet and I stay on the net almost 24/7.

Dont listen to them the problem isnt your modem its your firewall, a firewall has nothing to do with a modem their trying to trick yah.

A firewall blocks out people who try to access you ip adress.( people trying to hack you.) It also blocks out viruses too.

Try running without your Verizon firewall, but look up and download ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm is a great alternative firewall that if you configure it properly it won't cause access problems.
