Desktop trouble.....?

I build computers and have a good understanding about them. My desktop has an ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP 1.6ghz processor. 512MB RAM, 2 80GB EIDE HDDs, and an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 7500. (Among other things). I'm in the heat wave, so my PC's been locking up for CPU overheating protection. I'm not sure, however about why it won't work now. My room has been running under heavy air conditioning, so it's almost freezing in there lol. I suspect that now there are other problems, but I'm not sure as to how to detect them. Any ideas? Feel free to contact me (REAL EXPERTS ONLY) if you have experienced this with this MB/CPU.

What does ASUS Probe have to say?. Are the all fan speeds normal? What about all the power supply voltages? Are the CPU and memory voltages within spec? You're not overclocking are you? What are the CPU/MB temperatures? Try some Arctic Silver on the CPU. That might help. But then if you are going take CPU heatsink off to replace the grease you might just as well replace the heatsink/fan with the super deluxe model you always wanted.

i'd say take it to the shop
I don't have any experience with your M/B. However, I did, at one time owned a Athlon XP... And I use to get the same problem you describe, where the PC would lock up... I never thought it was the heat that was causin it because my CPU temp stayed below 52 degrees most of the time. I tried so many different things, like revert back the tweaks I configured and I stopped overclocking it.
