AVG and Norton Anti Spyware?

Ok. .I have AVG free edition on my computer. . also yahoo have Norton Virus Scan via the toolbar. Not knowing too much about technicalities and the running of suh program I am some what confused! Can these two programes work together or do I need to uninstall one? If so which one! Does the Norton cover enough protection for virus etc or is it purely anti spyware?? Please help me! Im female!! (and blonde. . but not that blonde!)

Avg is a fine antivirus, If I were you, (and thats a stretch) I would eliminate yahoo for google, its more useful and less intrusive. Norton has a large system overhead and running the two together only will slow down your pc. Thats all.

Try microsoft's antivirus, its simple and good.
okay blondie! the answer is yes you can have both. norton-you can set your options to scan for viruses and keep it active and it will tell you if something or someone is trying to put a worm in your computer or if you pick up viruses, then it will either quarantine it or prompt you to do so. if you have avg also; it seems that you can't set it to scan, but you can scan manually and quarantine the problems. you can combine spysweeper and spybot also with the other for a more complete protection. you can set spysweeper to scan. but, it seems to miss certain things. the spybot you have to scan yourself and it seems to pick up traces that the spysweeper will miss. so, in essence it is a good idea to have all four. spysweeper and norton will cost you, and the other 2 you can download for free. hope this helps!

Use AVG. It automatically updates to keep you ahead of all the new viruses and is better at finding them. Norton's virus library is slow to update and could put your computer at risk.

Internet explorer Problem!?

As it is my internet explorer is messed up, you cant click the actual icon you have to find a link on the computer and click it. Anyways, when i do that and im able to go on the internet for about 30 seconds, then it freezes. I hit Crl Alt delete and it says Internet explorer and Explore Not responding and im forced to restart. Oh, We used to have protection on our comoputer now we don't. Could this be a virus?? I think its a virus/Trojan, you have to do the following:

1- update your Anti-virus software.

2- scan your computer.

3- install the Ad-ware program to remove any Trojans that may in your computer.

4- I recommend to do another scan but in safe mode for both software (Anti-virus and Trojan removal).

if these not work then go for another browser software like Mazola.

have the cd in before you start the computer and when you start it F12/ESC then look for a CD-ROM option so and so..

Stand back and always make sure your actions are not based on your hatred toward your ex but based on what is best for your kids.

Do that regularly and often and always make sure that is the place you're coming from.

But, ***the most important advise I can give you*** is to get a restraining order put on her that keeps her from moving out of your area. You will almost certainly not get full custody unless you show she's incompetent (sorry I'm not addressing that point since that seems to be the main focus of your post). Once she has custody she will probably move and if she moves far enough away you can pretty much say goodbye to your kids.

Well I tried the restore everything by inserting a windows xp cd-rom to start all over.

Macbook Pro randomly shutting down?

I bought my Macbook Pro in July of 2006 and towards the end of last year it could only stay on with the battery for about 20 minutes before shutting down. I called customer service and they told me that you are supposed to buy a new battery about every year because you are supposed to get 300 charges out of every battery (I had gotten 466 out of mine). So in January I got a new battery and everything was working fine (btw, apple care protection plan doesn't cover batteries). However, recently my computer has been doing it AGAIN! Not necessary after 20 minutes... perhaps 40 minutes or whatever. But what is even more odd, is that the other day it randomly shut down WHILE the adapter was plugged in and the light was green! I've only had this battery for a little less than 2 months!

Any idea what could be wrong and what I can do?

I am not sure if you have adquate protection on your computer. If you are using XP of vista, you should be having Windows Defender, which protects you online. If not then you can download it free from Microsoft's website. You will require a firewall program, in case you do not have one, or are using the windows built in firewall, then using a free firewall program like the zonealarm home edition will be helpful

Please! Whats wrong with my Mac?

This June, I purchased a brand new Macbook OS X. Everything went blissfully as first, but recently I've been having a horde of problems, like...1. It doesnt remember/recongize programs I download (i.e. Mozilla Firefox, games from yahoo, Ad-Aware) 2. It constantly (1-3 times a day) pops up a "you must restart your computer now screen". Worse yet, when I restart, the word doc's often dont auto-recover 3. It, all by itself, threw my microsoft office in the garbage 4. My internet is dead slow and constantly (every 5-10 minutes when I'm using it) just stops working, even after I delete cookies and try everything else. We have other computers running on the same internet connection so I know it's not the modem. 5. My icons at the bottom are always disappearing and reappearing.

What could possibly be going on? I take great care of it, but the honeymoon phase is being cut short due to all these problems. Does anybody know of anything I can do. How can my warranty/protection plan help? Thanks

The base of your problem appears to be the ad. I suggest downloading Firefox and the extension Ad-Block Plus. Once installed, the extension allows you to block ads from appearing. To block the ad, right click on the ad and click ad-block. There might also be a block button on the side of the ad which you can click. Then click add filter and OK.

hi,,im using win 98,,today i was removing my free edition of avg antivirus free edition and installing activeshield antivirus,because

avg antivirus is stopping it's free service from jan 15th,,the activeshield antivirus refused to install unless

avg was uninstalled,,so while the computer was online i uninstalled avg successfully,,,,this might have given chance

to viruses and trojans to enter the comp in this no-virus-protection online state,,,,following this,i installed the active shield

With the information you provided, it is very hard to know precisely what the problem is. However, it sounds like you have an incompatible format with your CDs/DVDs. Remember, there are different formats of DVDs and CDs, some have the + symbol and some have the - symbol. Some readers/writers are not compatible with all formats of CD/DVD media.

Recently my computer has slowed down dramatically, and I can't seem to know what鈥檚 wrong with it. To answer your question, staring at a monitor too long can be bad for your eyes. Every half hour or so, look away for 20 seconds at something far away. I don't remember where I read that but I think it was on a health site or book.

I think my System Restore messed up my computer because I never had any problems signing into different messengers until I did this. Have u got a original disc to start your P.C from new?

If so best thing to do is a complete purge.

Otherwise go to on start (bottom left)click and go to control panel,then click add remove programs,find the nasty ones and delete.

If this does not work then shut down re-open and insert original disc(it will talk u thru it) and if u make a mistake? do not give up(learn from it) and try again.

After all it is your P.C,not a companys.

Internet keeps timing out?

My internet keeps timing out. It'll be constant- going back and forth with having a stable connection to losing it. I've reset the IP several times-resulting in a stable connection for only about 5 minutes. and then loses it again. I disconnected the modem on several occasions and then replug it and the same problem persists. It has happened before and i have contacted the ISP. They visited the house and they seem to know nothing about whats going on with the computer. Also, its almost automatic that I will lose connection when I open up Limewire. At the same time though I am able to talk to people via trillain. My current virus protection is McAfee and I have AdAware installed on my computer. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hmmm...do you have a router too? If not, or heck if so, make SURE it's not within 3 feet of any other electronics. I know having the router close to them effects your connectivity. I had mine on top of a TV once...the tech told me to consider it within a 3 foot bubble and no electronics can come within those 3 feet.

Is it bad to have more than 1 type of virus scan on your computer? I have:

- Some Microsoft Protector

- Windows Defender

For a while I had been getting a message that Verizon internet security suite encountered a problem and needed to be restarted. So I reinstalled it tonight and it's running fine now. Im actually doing a scan right now. I had downloaded windows defender and this microsoft protection a couple nights ago because I felt like my computer was at risk. So since Verizon Internet Security Suite is running properly, should I delete the windows defender and microsoft protectors or just dont worry about it and keep them on?

Spybot S%26D and SpywareBlaster immunize against *some* of the same things, but each has many that the other doesn't. Therefore it is quite good to have the both. (See post #4 in this Spybot forum: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php... )

Also, neither Spybot's, nor SpywareBlaster's *immunization* is active in the way that Avast's real-time protection is. It is advisable and indeed I do run all three.

The Tea Timer function of Spybot is independent of everything already mentioned. It doesn't matter if you use any or all of the above in your decision to run the Tea Timer.

* And contrary to what the first answerer said, Spybot has absolutely *nothing* to do with virus scanning, so his reasoning for not running it concurrent with Avast is a moot point.

You may be experiencing a virus in the form of a .dll file, if this is the case, go to any antivirus site, such as stopsign.com (not the best but the only one I can think of off the top of my head), download the free trial version, and run it, easy.... also look up tune up utilities for windows, and run that as well if the problem persists...

Rundll32 is an essential windows service. But some malware can mask itself as rundll32. You should probably do a free virus scan to be safe. Also, stop using internet explorer. It has many loopholes that allow malware to install itself. Use firefox.

So I would really like to buy the Dell XPS M1710 Total Domination laptop, and the price is $4,950 or $149/month. You will probably need to uninstall the virus protection and reinstall it.

To uninstall, click Start, then Control Panel, and then Add/Remove Programs. Find the program on the list and click uninstall.

After it uninstalls, reinstall it again from the original disks.

Most of the emails that I send, the recepient never receives. It happens with my yahoo and hotmail account. If they do get them, there is a virus attached in the body of the email.

It's usually a web address for a greeting/post card website. The web address appears just before I click the "send" button on my email. If I delete the address it simply pops back into the body of the email before I send it.

Same thing has happened to me before..many times..

If those programs don't do the trick, then restart the computer in safe mode and delete the file/thing you downloaded from there and hope to god it didn't affect any registry files.

Well, if you have no software to try to get rid of it, you could try download AVG for free and giving it a shot, might work or at least tell you what you have.

The 7200rpm drives will be faster, the 16MB cache will be faster than the 8mb.

"Flash memory" is actually relativly slow, especially when being written to, the "cache" memory in the "normal" drives is NOT "flash memory" it's normal RAM.

7200 RPM drive will be 33% faster (7200/5400) than the 5400 rpm drive

Ok so Like, I got windows Xp SP2, and i like the new addition to the security center, but i have a minor problem, eveything else os OK. except my virus protection!! my firewall is set ON, My automatic updates are set to ON, but what about my virus protection?? for some reason, its "saying not monitored", I know i have an antivirus on, i use norton antivirus 2003! i know its set to on, but it still wont put it on the ON position. With AVG free edition however, the status was ON!! but for some reason, it doesnt wanna be ON with norton antivurus 2003, WHY????

Okay so my computer was basically infected with the following "virus":

1- blood red web page filling my desktop with the message "Your Privacy is in Danger - Download privacy protection software now"

2 - desktop icons for "Spyware%26Protection", "PrivacyProtector","ErrorClean...

I've gotten rid of the icons as well as the background but my original wallpaper hasn't been restored, I've tried to right-click on the desktop but when I do there is no "desktop" option, there is only general and it says "unavailable." My background as of now is blank/white and I can only select one icon at a time.Can anyone help me?

You have spyware on your computer. You should download Ad-Aware from cnet.com and scan your harddrive for spywares. Then go to Yahoo and download Yahoo's pop-up blocker. You should be okay with these 2 programs.

My computer has been acting strangely after I visited a site where my Virus Protection Program (Spysweeper) said that the website was trying to install a BHO (Browser Helper Object) After that I was was getting these odd and random websites that made me automatically close out of the website I was currently on, and go to a website that could have been music to ebay. Alright so I installed my whole AT%26T Yahoo anti-virus and everything again but now it says that my anti-virus is with Norton Anti-Virus when before it wasn't.

You would have to contact your ISP. My ISP is partnered with Yahoo and Norton as well. I haven't any choice so I simply didn't install the Norton security part and kept my own.

On a friends computer he had been on the net for 2 days without any protection and got flooded with Spyware, Trojans, Malware, PUPS and crap. I downloaded Kaspersky Antivirus, Spybot S/D, and Adaware. With those they found a lot but still has problems, like computer will random restart, the slider is reset to the lowest on the internet options privacy tab, when it should be at medium or medium high, and i keep getting a Windows-No Disk Error message that keeps popping up and I keep cancelling. Type in Windows-No Disk in google search and the first few is the one I get. There are soultions on how to fix that but that is not even half the other problems I get. Is Kaspersky Good? It sounds like one of the better ones now. Since there isn't a lot on the disk I may just wipe it and start over. What do you think?

I upgraded from 7.5 to 8 last week, big mistake. My CPU Usage went upto 100% all the time, mine is never above 15%, it was as slow as hell. I uninstalled it %26 put 7.5 back on and all is well again. It appears to be almost as bad a resource hog as Norton.

I still get the 'upgrade to version 8' box, but I just close that window.
Ignore the upgrade box,you do not need to install the paid version for the additional firewall if using windows or firefox firewall.The built in anti-spyware is excellent and the linkscanner scans the website using realtime protection for any viruses or trojans unlike Macafee siteadvisor that just gives user ratings.Overall AVG 8 is better the only thing i don't like is the interface with it's annoying advert/tips box .Lastly do not uninstall version 7.5 just install version 8 over it and version 7.5 automatically gets uninstalled.

Cause i use avira antivirus personaledition classic free version. I just installed ad-aware for spyware protection. Do i need to install a malware protection for malware protection or avira comes with it? I am very worried cause yesterday i had a warning from mcafee site advisor and accidentaly clicked it and then i got a message saying something ur computer is infected with a malware. Sorry but I dunno how god Avira is. I'd recommend you to get hte ZoneAlarm Internet Security, cuz it's known to have the best firewall, and u seem to know it too. Back then, now that it uses Kaspersky's Scanning Engine, it got the best Anti-Virus, too. And the Anti-Spyware is really cool. It finds everything, I took the Spy-Sweeper trial, scanned my pc for Spyware and it found nothing, which means the Anti-Spyware had found everything.

McAfee product annoying?

I got my computer about a year ago and it came with the McAfee virus protection thing. Well my free trial expried back in july and now everytime im on my computer I have this annoying pop up saying if I would like to renew my subscription now or later. How do I keep this from popping up I can't figure it out. I don't want to renew this product so i'm always clicking on renew later.

go to start, run and type %temp%

this will bring up all the tempory files that will slow down ur computer. On ur toolbar do edit select all , a window should come up on the left side, look for the delete option and delete those files. If it wont delete something click off the files and the n repeat select all and delete again, u might have to keep doing this till u get them all.

You should only have 1 anti virus, so you need to unisntall Madesafe. The best way to uninstall a program and make space on your hard drive is to use Ccleaner. So download and install that.

My personal favorites are AVG Free, Spybot Search %26 Destroy, and Comodo Firewall.

AVG takes care of viruses and trojans, Spybot takes care of spyware, and Comodo acts as a very good firewall.
If you have a trojan, theres no point in removing spyware only. The trojan will put it back on. You could use AVG to rid your computer of the stupid thing then use "xoft spy" or "ad-aware". Many people will tell you to use spyware doctor - dont bother, it wont remove the stuff unless youve paid the registration fee. Also, Windows Defender is sometimes brilliant but it doesnt seem to detect everything all the time.

If youre any good at computers you can remove it manually.

You have made your SD card write protect there would be a small slide on plastic clip to remove write protect, same way as Floppy disk used to have.

Is it SD memory? Some memory cards have a small pale grey or white plastic piece on the side, this is the write protection, if you have it move it to the opposite direction and retry. :)
