Shuts down during Hard Drive Self Test???

I don't know what is wrong with my laptop.

I contacted HP technical support and they tolled me to run the Diagnostic Hard Drive Self Test b/c:

It would freeze randomly

shutdown by itself--- blue screen would come up saying that it needs to shutdown to protect itself and something about BIOS.

^problem has been going on for about a month now

When ever it gets to around 50%-80% on the comprehensive Hard Drive Self Test it just shuts down. I鈥檝e tried running it about 10 times today and the same thing happens each time.

HP said that they were going to call me back in 45 minutes, which was 5 hours ago. My computer is running right now but I don't trust that it will keep running that long.

It鈥檚 an HP Pavilion dv2225nr Entertainment Notebook PC and not even a year old yet!!! I have Norton 360 virus protection so I don't think it could be a virus but i do download music off limewire occasionally...

I have a 3 year warranty so hopefully it should cover what ever needs to be fixed.

So wh

Shuts down during Hard Drive Self Test???virus protection

First, restart the puter, during the restart tap the F8 key repeatedly until you get the Safe Mode Menu, then choose Safe Mode w/ networking (safe mode and you will have net access at the same time). Then run the hard drive diagnostic program. Also you may wish to turn off any power saving or screensaver feature while you run it or move the mouse every few seconds to keep them from engaging.

If you still have the restart problem or the program doesn't complete still, then go (while in Safe Mode), to www.bitdefender.com and run a full free inet virus scan. Then run it again.

Need further PC help, e-mail me @ excite.com (same name as here).

Good Luck!
