I have a new Dell with Vista. There are things on here that weren't on my compaq with windows-xp. I understand that Macrovision is some sort of copyright protection thing.I have some sort of applications or programs on here by flexnet and macrovision. I have no clue where they came from, what programs they apply to, or why I keep getting "windows has blocked some programs....." and it is blocking the installshield update service. Can I remove flexnet and macrovision or will it cause future problems? If I need to reinstall them, are they free? I went to the macrovison.com website and it was no help at all. I could not find a "contact us" link.
And if anyone knows of a good, reputable online service that will connect to your computer remotely, to find and fix issues, please let me know. I need a remote computer geek!!

If you still have your old XP installation disk from your compaq, use that to install XP instead of Vista.
You'll thank me. In fact, Dell still does this with most of their new computers so I'm surprised you got Vista at all. Dell got tired of all the support requests from Vista users.
Or take the Dell back to the store and buy a Mac. No more crappy extra applications from companies you don't know or trust.
