I have a Hp Pavilion PC with a built in DVD/RW drive (LITE-ON SHM series according to the documentation) that plays audio CDs, non copy-protected DVDs and data CDs perfectly, and burns fine too, but when I insert a DVD movie with copy protection the drive light comes on but the disc is not recognized... opening up My Computer or attempting to browse the DVD drive freezes the PC.
Is this a deliberate feature to stop copying DVDs or is my drive faulty/ software need updating? It's not like I even want to copy DVDs, just watch them. Any help appreciated,
Thanks

I had this exact same problem with my old hp, and i messed around with it for months until i finally just broke down and bought a new dvd burner from newegg.com and never had a problem again, have since moved on and built a new machine, but buying a new drive was the only solution i found.
check out other non copy protected dvd if u can copy them to ur pc then its f9 and by the way copy protected is hard to copy if thid prob show on every dvd then change ur cable first and then try
Check the regional settings on your DVD drive. See control Panel%26gt;Sounds and Audio Devices%26gt;Properties%26gt;DVD Region.
You probably should go to the hp website to download the driver of your DVD/RW and reinstall it, see if that works.
You can go to the website below and type in your model number and it will show you a list of driver, just find the driver for your DVD/RW install it.
