I need serious help! (virus info)?

Please help! OK, i'm 14 and my mom doesn't allow me to go on myspace.com, but i do anyways. I was just on it on my laptop and this screen popped up and said i had contracted a virus. I am not sure if this was real or not because my mom told me viruses attack your computer unnoticed until you scan it for viruses or something. I have no virus protection software on my laptop, so i don't think anything could have detected a virus if I had one. Have you ever heard of a fake virus alert before? Oh, and also, I would like to scan my laptop for viruses just in case, but I can't spend money on software. Do you know any place online that I can get a free scan? PLEASE HELP ME!!!! And if you don't know, please ask friends or family! Thank you so much!

next goto http://www.spybot.com and down load Spybot S%26D for free, update each on and run scans, but not at the same time.

I am sure its just a fake pop-up trying to get you to click on it and install some bogus software... To be on the safe side, I suggest you download Avast from avast.com ..... And run a boot time scan just to be sure.... Good luck and next time listen to your mom!

Don't always trust downloading virus scanners, sometimes they're viruses.

And it might just be a popup trying to scare you. As long as you didn't click it, you should be okay. If you're getting constant popups, you might have a virus.
