Hello,
In almost everything I try to install windows tells me that a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly, and that windows will let me know when a solution is avaliable. This has happened with Java, AIM, some games, ect. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell M1530 Notebook computer. I have exercised almost everything that I could think of, i.e. disabling DEP, all virus protection programs show zero threats, Safe Mode, ect.
Does anyone know a possible solution, as this is extremely frusterating, I'm about ready to throw this computer out the window and get a mac.

Yank "JAVA" fast, it sucks, and is the source of many problems for me. When I delete that damn JAVA from the Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, everything seems to work much, much better. Uninstall JAVA...

I'm having the same problem with some software where it installs fine on XP but not Vista Home Premium. I found an article that claims that the installer for Windows Vista enforces "best practices", that is to say, what were once recommendations are now strictly enforced -- if the installation routine violates certain rules, then Vista will not allow it to proceed. There doesn't seem to be much about this on the net as one would think for the inconvenience it causes. My computer has a 60 day satisfaction guarantee and I'm considering returning it. However, it is difficult to find a new machine with XP. I couldn't find the link for the simpler explanation but did find the link at Microsoft listed below that alludes to the issue.

If you have the recovery discs then do a CLEAN reinstall of the os. I had that problem also when i had to upgrade to Windows Vista Enterprise. When you do a clean install, windows should automatically get all of the drivers it need. Also, make sure that you back up all the files you need. A clean install erases your hard drive. Hope this helps!
