My virus protection expired whilst I was in the US. The kids had no idea how to renew the licence. The computer slowed right down to nothing, then various problems occured. I think it got a virus, making it unusable. Now, I have to reformat every time I need to use it - I keep getting a message telling me to save data as there is an imminent hard drive failure expected - press F1 to continue. I get this even when I have reformatted the hard drive. Everyone tells me the BIOS is infected!!
How do I re-format the bios on my laptop?photoshop
hi peter
your cannot format a bios, the bios however can be updated or flashed
you can however format your hard drive, and this can be done using several methods
the first and easiest is to reinstall windows,as part of the installation process windows gives you a option to format and partition(split your hard drive into 2 or more drives)your hard drive, before any windows xp installation the drive will be formatted as part of the set up
the second method is to use the "fdisk" command prompt, however to do this you need to create a legacy start up disk(windows 98/me) and run the fdisk from within this,to create a start up disk go to http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and run this file that will then transfer the dat to a floppy disk(you need a formatted 1.44mb floppy disk in your drive)
