My laptop was inside my protection sleeve. I put the laptop on my bed and it slipped off my bed and dropped onto the carpet. Now when I push the power button, the button itself lights on, but nothing happens. The machine doesn't sound like it's turned on, but the light on the power button (only) remains on, until I turn the machine off.
I took it to a computer place for a very very general diagnostic. The guy took the harddrive out and nothing was wrong with it (the contents can be retrieved when plucked into another machine). He plucked an external monitor to the laptop but nothing shows up (meaning the problem is not with my laptop monitor). He said something else internal is damaged. He said it's not worth it to get it fixed. I want to get a second opinion on this before buying a new laptop.
It's a refurbished gateway, a bit over 1 year old.
What's the problem and roughly how much to fix? Should I buy a new laptop instead?
Dropped laptop, power button is on but nothing happens?computers
i dont know what the problem is, but the problem with laptops is that everything is condensed into a small space and usually when something breaks internally the motherboard needs to be replaced. most motherboards usually run upwards of 500 dollars. so it will probably serve you better to just go buy a new one. try acer. those are very good brands. i have had two. the first one i would still have but someone spilled a coke on the keyboard. and the one i am on now is an acer. they are very good.
