This computer is for my 9 year old son who needs it for school. I thought it would be nice to get him a "Cheap" notebook for $9,574. He wanted a VooDoo but I don't have 20K + on hand. Is this a good entry level notebook?

That is over kill to the maximum. Get a average system at any major retailer from HP, Compaq, Acer or Gateway. That way when he drops and breaks it the loss will not be as painful. When he gets to his teen years and wnats to waste his time doing games instead of studying, and wants to steal copyrighted music and video, then spend the big money to assist him.
geez...9 year olds now a days! anyway yeah 9k is not cheap, unless you can be frivolous and waste money on an "entry" level notebook. just go to best buy and get suckered into buying a notebook, or...get a mac. i heard those work pretty well.
Holy **** are you joking? I hope so. That computer is insanely powerful for a notebook. That would be considered a very hard core gaming notebook, freaking very hardcore.
If you spend over 800 bucks on a notebook for your 9 year old son your crazy. Why the hell does a 9 year old need a computer for school. Unless he is in some crazy snotty private school, in that case buy him the computer you describe there, it will make the other kids jealous. ^_^
Thats i a little high, i got a refurbished notebook that works great for $2,400.
For school your son would be looking at a MacBook for $1099 which will be ideal for everything he is going to do.
