Are the new mac computers compatable with aditional programs that are not made for them?

If you intend to use software like NORTON, make sure (on the package) its compatible with MAC/OS X.

If you would like to run windows applications on a MAC you cant, unless you use this new application from APPLE known as BOOT CAMP, which runs windows on a mac.

Hope this helps!

You should not need an anti-virus for mac. (knock on wood) They don't get viruses. There is a native version of MS office for Macs. For other programs exclusively for Microsoft there are a couple of options. First if its a newer Intel based MAC, you can download a free program called bootcamp. This will partition the hard drive to allow Microsoft to load natively. Second you can run a program called parallels (parallels.com) and for only $79 you can run windows in an window on the Mac desktop. Either option you would use you would probably need an anti-virus for the windows side seeing as it is still virus prone even though it is running on Apple hardware.

Cheers
There are Mac versions of these products, yes. Macs aren't subject to most of the viruses affecting Windows, however. Most Mac users find no need to run antivirus software. Will the Mac operating system run Windows versions of those products natively? No.

Alternatively, you can now install Windows on the new Intel-based Macs and boot into either Mac OS or Windows.
